Looking forward to next week, Curriculum night is on Thursday, September 1st. Curriculum night will begin at 6:00 with an introduction from Headmaster Washburn. Then please come by to join us in the classrooms.
Spalding
This week we will begin assigning daily spelling homework. Each night your student will receive 10 words to have dictated to them 3 times by an adult. Dictating words to your students will help build their automaticity for spelling.
Math
We have finished our first unit in math, and we will begin the task of mental math calculations. Our foundation for mental math is the idea of making 10’s. Students will become more fluent in mental math if they are able to make 10’s and see relationships between numbers.
Language Arts
This week’s passage is a continuation of The Lemonade Trick by Scott Corbett. Your student will be reading this short passage in class. For homework, have them read the passage and then work in their packet. The packet goes day-by-day.
Science
This week, we will continue our introduction in the various branches of science. We will be doing an activity that introduces the scholars to observe how science impacts our daily lives from the food we eat, to the clothes we wear, the locations we build architecture, and various other ways science impacts us.
Literature
We will continue reading The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White. If you have not purchased this book, please do so soon.
Here is a list of all the books we will be reading this year.
Little House on the Prairie
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Pinocchio
The Little Prince
The Trumpet of the Swan
