Spalding
This week we will practice cursive handwriting, and we will begin taking home spelling words on Wednesday. Instructions on how to complete the spelling homework will be sent home with the words. Please encourage your student to continue practicing phonograms in their free time.
Math
We are nearing the end of our introductory unit in math. We will have a test on Thursday. Study guides and helpful notes will be sent home on Monday to help your scholar study. The test will evaluate your student’s ability to recognize a digit’s value, number patterns, and approximation.
Language Arts
This week’s passage is from The Lemonade Trick by Scott Corbett. Your student will be reading this short passage in class. For homework, have them read the passage and then work in their packet. The packet goes day-by-day.
History
We will be continuing our study of the continents and the oceans of the world with a quiz over those eleven things on Wednesday. They will receive their study guide on Monday so that they have time to study and review before the quiz.
Science
Our first unit will be this week as we begin an introduction to the different branches of science. The scholars will be introduced to Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geology, and Astronomy. Students will begin to observe how science is used in our everyday lives. Our first unit will provide a brief understanding of what each of the branches of science is used for, prior to diving in deeper as the year progresses.
Literature
We have completed the first four chapters of The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White. If you have not purchased this book, please do so soon.
Here is a list of all the books we will be reading this year.
Little House on the Prairie
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
